Bwindi is one of Africa’s Most biodiverse forests due to its altitudinal span of 1,160m to 2,607m and an antiquity of more than 25,000 years. Bwindi Harbors at least 120 mammal species, its most famous residents being the mountain Gorillas which number around 400 spreads in 25-30 troops. Another 10 primate species are available including a healthy population of the chimpanzees, Olive Baboon, black and white colobus, L’Hoest’s Monkey, red tailed monkey and blue monkey. Of the big five, only elephants are present. The Park also boasts of over 350 bird species.
Day 01
Upon arrival, our representative will meet and pick you from the airport and you will transfer to your Hotel. Hotel options include Protea Hotel, Karibu guest house, Hotel number 5, The Boma, meal plan B&B
Day 02
After an early breakfast at your hotel, you transfer back to Entebbe airport for a domestic flight to Kisoro, western Uganda, departing at 7: 00 hrs. (Expected Time of Arrival 8:10hrs) You will then be transferred by road from Kihihi to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the home of the mountain Gorillas. Check in at the lodge and enjoys a delicious lunch. After lunch, you have some time to relax and prepare yourself for the following Day’s activities or go for an optional guided for your first introduction to Uganda’s Flora and Fauna. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. Lodge options include Mahogany springs, Engaagi Tented camp, Buhoma Lodge.
Day 03
Early rise at the lodge and have breakfast, and prepare for the highlight of your safari, Gorilla tracking and habituation experience, where you will spend 4 hours with the Gorillas.
You will transfer to the park offices where you will be allocated a Gorilla family in groups of 8 and a Gorilla tracking guide. Your guide will brief you about you assigned Gorilla family and appropriate safety precautions and then you will drive to the trail head for the start of a thrilling adventure.
Expect to walk to walk between 2 and 8 hours in steep and sometimes muddy conditions with rain overhead which ca be tricky and may require an average degree of fitness. However, the thrill of coming face to face with the Giant Silverback ultimately makes up for the effort invested.
Please remember to bring your passport for registration. Appropriate, waterproof hiking boots and a light rain coat. To protect from stinging nettles, we recommend long pants and long-sleeved tops. A pair of old gardening gloves can help grab on to the vegetation, while most hotels/lodges provide a walking stick that comes in very handy, especially when hiking downhill. A small waterproof back pack is an excellent idea to carry a light snack, bottled water as well as protection for your camera.
Upon sighting the Gorillas, you will spend 4 hours with them as they go about their daily life; feeding, moving, playing, raising their young ones and sometimes wrestling by the juveniles. It is a very unique and unforgettable experience.
After this experience, you will hike back to the base, where your driver will be waiting to transfer you to the lodge for a deserved shower and dinner at the lodge.
Day 04
Today, you will leave Bwindi Impenetrable national park and head back to Entebbe aboard a morning flight Departing at 8 00 hors. At Entebbe Airport, connect to your international flight. Timming may vary depending on aircraft routing.
Of the over 800 mountain gorillas worldwide, Bwindi impenetrable national park is home to almost half of this Gorilla population. There is no better place for observing these gentle giants at a close distance. The number of Gorillas in the forest has over time increased from 300 to 400 in nine different families that have been habituated for tourism purposes.
